The Artist - Emily Stone

Emily Stone creates her Copper Creatures from her workshop near Dover in Kent. In 2001 she started sculpting full-time, and since then she has exhibited widely in galleries and gardens around Britain. Emily recycles copper hot water tanks, plumbing pipes and electrical cables to create her sculptures. After heating and beating the metal to her design she utilises the torch to generate beautiful colours, which she then seals with lacquer against the elements. Her sculptures are inspired by nature and capture the essence of the subject. She particularly enjoys exploring the interaction between sculptures and their surroundings; a proud stag surveying his territory from the brow of a hill, or a mother pig rootling through a border with her piglets. Each sculpture tells a story as it engages with its environment.
