Clay is wonderful because of its unique immediacy. Rachel primarily focuses on a bird's characteristic form but sometimes uses surface texture, oxides and stains to assist identification. Rachel is a committed member of RSPB and supports their crucial work preserving and protecting nature and biodiversity. She shares the conviction that our legacy is nature’s future. All pieces are unique and most are raku fired. This process requires surrender to the ‘kiln gods’, who sometimes wreak vengeance! The alchemy of flame is the final stage of what is, for her, an elemental process.
